It’s official, Round and Round the Garden at The Commandery is a hit!
11 July 2022
The Worcester Rep’s annual performance at The Commandery opened last week and is in full swing - and the sun’s come out just in time! Audiences so far have loved the opportunity to sit in the beautiful setting of the Commandery gardens while enjoying Alan Ayckbourn’s hilarious comedy, Round and Round the Garden.
Journalist John Philpott said
“Round and Round the Garden neatly zips along at a cracking pace. Yet again, theatre in the magnificent Commandery setting enriches Worcester’s creative and social life - and that is why this endlessly entertaining play is so warmly recommended.”.
The play begins with Annie, one of three siblings, who is trying to sneak away for a raunchy weekend with her brother-in-law, Norman. But a combination of Norman’s insatiable appetite for women and family members interfering means everything goes wrong, and amusing shenanigans ensue.
Reviewer Tim Crow has said
“The charm of the presentation in the early evening sunshine and the fresh air is great. The Commandery Gardens provide a delightful setting for an evening picnic with entertainment, and the garden is the perfect setting for this play.”.
Critics have not only been delighted with the glorious weather, but also the incredibly strong performances from this years’ cast.
Phil Yarrow, who plays Norman, has been making audiences chuckle with his naughty ways, and it’s been said
“He brings huge energy to the role and much humour to the play.”.
Ian Parkin has had a riotous return to the Commandery after his debut last year (Elsie & Norm’s Macbeth), as he plays the slightly dim witted but lovable Tom who has the audience in stitches with his misunderstanding and innocent nature.
So, listen to Tim Crow who also said
“The forecast is good for the week ahead. Book your tickets and get along to this production.”
and don’t miss your last chance to sit in the sunshine and have a great laugh.
