About the Young REP

The Young REP is about more than just about performance. As a member of the Young REP, you are taking steps forward in your professional development, you’ll be an important part of the Worcester REP, and part of a team striving towards excellence not only on the stage; but also for the surrounding community.

Each year the young company work alongside Worcester Theatres professional staff on both studio and main-stage productions. This gives members the opportunity to experience a professional performance environment whilst making contacts in the industry for the next stage of their careers. Members also receive exclusive early access to workshops and events being held at Worcester Theatres.

Since the Swan Theatre, Worcester opened in 1965 there has been a youth theatre in operation. For over 50 years thousands of young people have trod the boards at the Swan and many member of the Young Rep have gone on to study at some of the UK’s most prestigious Drama schools, going on to be professional actors and have had incredible careers in performing arts, theatre, radio, TV, and film.

The Young REP has a reputation for producing high quality at a professional standard. In 2022 we will have the opportunity to showcase their commitment, hard work, and skill on a national level after being selected for National Theatre (NT) Connections 22. Every year NT Connections works with 300 youth theatre companies from every corner of the UK to produce a National Theatre commissioned Connections play.

This year our Young REP performed a 3-day run of Hunt at the Swan Theatre and will perform as part of the NT Connections festival at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff in April.

What our Members Say...

The Young REP Experience is an exhilarating step towards professional drama; this was my first time working with a director and performing in a production open to the public. The environment is a place of mutual respect where everyone’s ideas and opinions are valued; I was always listened to and supported until I understood. I enjoyed becoming a member of the cast and learning the different motions of our ensemble; it is also incredibly exciting when someone spontaneously acts, allowing you to follow the improvisation. Therefore, you are constantly learning and adapting throughout rehearsals. I have gained so much through this experience, such as close friends and an enormous growth in confidence and character.
