Worcester Theatres are working with the Worcestershire Community Foundation on an amazing project, and with support from their #IWILL22 fund and the help of Worcestershire’s talented Young People we’re very excited for what the future holds!
Worcester Theatres are proud to announce the founding of the Worcester Theatres Youth Advisor Board & Future Leaders Programme. We are always looking at how we can improve our services, programme and other activities to help support the abundance of young talent in Worcestershire, and for the very first time we’ve created a programme that will let young creatives, aged 15-20, help guide us in those decisions.
What will the project involve?
Our Worcester Theatres Youth Advisor Board & Future Leaders Programme will be a 12-month training and development project that will give the young people of Worcestershire a chance to gain valuable experience within the theatre industry, and an opportunity to make real decisions that will affect the cultural landscape of Worcester.
What participants will gain:
- Participants will work with Worcester Theatres’ CEO & Artistic Director, Sarah-Jane Morgan, as well as our Outreach & Participation Team to support and guide Worcester Theatres future offers for children and young people in Worcestershire. By working with our participants, we hope to embed the voice of young people within our organisation and to respond to our Youth Advisor Boards opinion on what young people want and need.
- We want our Youth Advisor Board to be heavily involved in the organisation's current youth programmes, giving them the experience and skills they need to produce their own events in the future.
- With the experience the participants will gain from the WT Youth Advisor Board & Future Arts Leaders Programme, we hope to give them a foundational knowledge of the creative industry and the practical information they need to pursue future work within the Arts.
- Participants will also complete a Gold Arts Award qualification, which is accredited through Trinity College London, and worth 16 UCAS points. The Arts Award qualification will help develop their creativity, leadership, reflective thinking and communication skills that are essential for success in any industry.
The Youth Advisor Board will meet every other month (bi-monthly) over the 12-month period.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for 20 enthusiastic and creative young people, from the Worcestershire area, to help shape our organisation's artistic vision concerning young people's needs, wants and experiences. Participants must be aged between 15-20, living in Worcestershire and have a passion for the arts. We are not looking for a specific type of person with specific skills, we want people with a broad range of interests, experiences, and abilities. There is no experience required, participants must simply be able to commit to the length of the project and be excited and willing to help our organisation improve, as well as wanting to gain valuable experience in a theatre along the way.
Our project is designed to provide Worcestershire's young people with a space to learn, lead and help break down barriers that may prevent them (and others) from pursuing careers within the creative industry. If this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in then please see details below on how to apply.
How to apply!
If you or any young people you know fit the criteria, are passionate about the arts and have a desire to develop their leadership skills, we would love to hear from them.
All you need to do is tell us a bit about yourself, who you are, where you come from, what aspect of the arts you are most interested in, what you are up to currently/working on, and why you would like to join the Worcester Theatres Youth Advisor Board & Future Leaders Programme.
The format of your application is completely up to you:
- A typed document, with up to two written paragraphs – max 1 page.
- A video recording of yourself speaking, up to 5 mins max.
Please send your submission to [email protected]. Please feel free to email us with any further questions you may have. We can't wait to hear from you!
Thank you to Worcester Community Foundation for funding this programme as part of their #IWILL22 fund, without whom this project would not be possible.
