SYT - Holiday Club

Welcome to the Swan Youth Theatre Holiday Club

During the school holidays, we provide fun and exciting theatre sessions, led by our experienced Youth Theatre Tutors. Throughout our Holiday School, we'll be exploring storytelling, character development, devising and much more!

We have given this year's Summer Holiday Club the theme of Time Travellers. We felt this theme was a good and interactive basis for summer club as it helps build drama skills across a range of ages, the theme has a very strong educational crossover and is a brilliant foundation for devising and creating as it is so broad. This theme gives younger ages a clear imaginative world to play in whereas older students can explore deeper storytelling, character work and devised theatre techniques. Further to this, the theme encourages engagement with historical learning and applying this learning in a creative space. The varying theme of Time Travellers sparks creativity amongst young thinkers and allows participants to make parallels between the modern day and the consequential nature of history. The theme itself is fun and familiar so therefore accessible for all; it allows the young person to insert themselves into the narrative by ‘travelling’ to different settings. Finally, Time Travellers promote teamwork and empathy; young people explore good vs bad historical events and consequences. For older participants, they can explore how identity changes across history and generations, moral dilemmas and reflect on the importance of history. Overall, this theme encourages discussion on change in society, how time periods shape the future and how decisions can impact generations to come.

Our holiday school is appropriate for ages 5 - 16. Children need to bring a packed lunch and enough drinks to last the day - water and squash are available freely.
