Through shot and shell, the red-coated British soldier endured the bloody battlefields of the 18th century. Poor food, the privations of active service and possibly death or injury were the lot of many a man who had taken the King’s shilling.

But incredibly, concealed in the ranks of this male world, there could occasionally be found a woman in disguise. Hannah Snell was one such woman…

Abandoned after her husband is called to serve, she decides to find him by masquerading as a man in uniform. Hannah falls foul of the brutal punishments of the period, fights in battles against the French, and returns to Britain a conquering hero, eventually enjoying national fame on the theatre stage before spending her final days in an asylum.

This is the incredible true tale of Worcester born Hannah Snell and her unflinching resolve, courage and determination to overcome all odds.
