“Gaslight”

This is the original stage version of Patrick Hamilton’s classic Victorian thriller, first presented in the1930s, twice filmed and revived at the Old Vic.

Gaslight  tells the story of a wife who is being persecuted by her husband until she believes she is losing her mind. Items mysteriously disappear from the house, the gaslight inexplicably dims and mysterious footsteps are heard from the floor above. Will anyone come to the rescue of this poor tormented woman? What secrets from her husband’s past is Mrs. Manningham yet to discover?

The action takes place in the course of one evening in the slightly seedy living room of a four-storeyed house in an unfashionable part of Victorian London.
