Worcester Theatres celebrate LGBT+ History Month with a programme of free events on Saturday 26th February 2022
24 February 2022
To celebrate LGBT+ History Month Worcester Theatres and local LGBTQ+ community organisation, Out2gether will co-host a day of events on Saturday 26th February from midday to 5pm in the Swan Theatre. The event, called Out Saucy - Community Get2gether will include music, poetry, talks, workshops and stalls provided by local organisations and service providers for the LGBTQ+ community. The event is open to all and completely free!
This year’s LGBT+ History Month theme is ‘Politics in Art’ and so the organisers of Saucy, the regular queer performance evening hosted by Worcester Theatres and held at the Vesta Tilley Studio (Swan Studio), have helped bring together artists and community organisations for this special day.
“At a time when we are emerging from a period where community gatherings weren’t possible or had to go online, it is wonderful to bring together organisations and artists to show the positivity and strength of the LGBTQ+ community for all to enjoy. There’s a wealth of talented local artists working in the field of queer arts, and together they enrich the cultural landscape of Worcester.”
- Daniel Somerville, Programmer of Saucy for Worcester Theatres
Music will be provided by Kyle Finn and drag artist ElliXia Q Valentine, both regular contributors to Saucy and veterans of Worcestershire Pride. There will be poetry from the Standing Proud Writers’ group and a drag workshop organised by Haus of Up for anyone who wants to play and experiment with gender expression – complete beginners of any gender welcome to participate. There will also be a talk on aging in the LGBTQ+ community, a panel looking specifically at queer arts in the region and a community talking shop, as well as the familiar Out2gether coffee social. There will be stalls in the foyer of the Swan Theatre from Mermaids, New Road Parents, the LGBTQ+ student network, West Mercia Police, Healthwatch and Behind the Smile.
The day will be rounded off with a Saucy event, Saucy Love, that will feature Emma Bourke Theatre, comedian Freddie Barker and more. Saucy is a ticketed event and tickets are £8 available through Worcester Theatres.
“The Out Saucy - Get2gether event will certainly be one of the years’ highlights for Worcester Theatres. It’s been a pleasure to work with such amazing partners on the delivery of this event and we're inviting everyone and anyone down to enjoy it with us. We’re also very excited for the Saucy Love event in the evening - it's great that we have such a vibrant and active culture of Queer Performance here within the city.”
- Owen Harper, Creative Producer for Worcester Theatres
